Wythe Hospice of SWVA in Wytheville, Va., recently partnered with Open Door Cafe as their WHV Veteran-to-Veteran Café venue. This is a restaurant that allows customers to pay what they can for their meal and/or volunteer to work. Several Wythe Hospice staff members
volunteered for three hours on May 1 to support the facility and as a “thank you” for agreeing to host the WHV Café.

Hamilton, Crystal Wynn, Cindy Leighton, and Diana Gill served food (hair nets and all!), bussed tables, washed dishes, and mopped floors. The group had so much fun they have decided to serve at the Café on a quarterly basis as a way for their agency to give back to the community. The experience really opened their eyes regarding the amount of people in their own backyard who don’t have access to daily hot meals. And, they had lots of fun!
