Delores Ward, RN at Halcyon Hospice of Greenville, S.C., has a very special way of comforting families of a deceased loved one when she performs a death visit. After the passing of one of her own family members, she realized how difficult it is to see a disheveled, empty bed once a loved one’s body has been removed. Delores always makes sure to make the patient’s bed, and then she places an item of importance to the deceased on their bed to remember the person who has passed. The items may be a picture of the loved one and a favorite fishing cap, or a Bible opened to a favorite passage with a rose, or a favorite teddy bear. Family members notice and appreciate her special practice.
